Lucy is 6 years old and lives with life-threatening anaphylaxis to nuts and legumes. A trained allergy alert service dog can sniff out trace allergens in her food and on the people around her — turning invisible danger into a warning we can act on. Why This Matters
Nut and legume allergies are severe — and exposure is common
Anaphylaxis is a rapid, life-threatening allergic reaction. For children like Lucy, even trace amounts of nut or legume protein — on a shared surface, a kiss from a relative, or a hidden ingredient — can trigger a medical emergency within minutes.

What Is an Allergy Alert Dog?
A legitimate, protected service animal — not a pet
An allergy alert dog (also called an allergen detection dog) is a professionally trained service animal, protected under the same laws as guide dogs and mobility dogs. Their work is real, rigorous, and life-changing.
Trained, Not Born Ready
These dogs undergo hundreds of hours of scent-detection training to reliably identify specific allergen proteins — and to ignore countless safe foods. Only a fraction of dogs have the drive and temperament to qualify, which is why training is so intensive and costly.
Legally Protected Access
A properly trained allergy alert dog is a recognized service animal. That means public access rights — schools, restaurants, stores, and travel — so the dog can do its job wherever Lucy goes.

Before Lucy eats, her dog checks the food, plates, and surfaces by scent — alerting us to trace nut or legume proteins we could never see.
Screening People & Hands
After someone eats or handles allergens, residue lingers on skin and breath. Her dog can alert us when a visitor carries allergen traces so we can take precautions.
Constant, Quiet Vigilance
Unlike a human, a dog's nose works continuously — scanning classrooms, homes, restaurants, and gatherings for hidden danger without fatigue.

I'm a single mom, and I'm deeply grateful for the work Yah has blessed me with through Abide & Thrive. But right now, several large expenses are all equally urgent — and the cost of acquiring and training a reliable allergy alert dog is beyond what one family can manage alone.
